Crafting Hiatus

I have decided to stop making cards and things for the next couple of weeks so that I can tackle Christmas with no distractions. I am well behind with just about everything and I have got to arrange my Mum's preparations as well. I realised that I've been making cards instead of getting a move on and using the bad weather as an excuse. It's a very absorbing hobby and Berniebear has sent me templates for an exploding box card and a fan card and I am just itching to have a go but I need to put my decs up and mop the kitchen floor etc etc etc. I'll still log in to keep updated and to look at all the cards though - can't go cold turkey.

So all that remains is to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Peaceful and Prosperous New Year.
Hugs, Hazel x

When life gives you lemons your lips pucker up.

I'm in a philosophical frame of mind this morning. My nephew Archie has had to cope with the death of his beloved dog Miles and then, soon after, the death of his irreplaceable Grandad Frank. All this while he is away at Uni in Birmingham, first time away from home - it must be dreadful.

It's probably unusual to be so close to your sisters in-laws but Frank and Jean Hird were such lovely, warm people and my children adored them. Frank was a scouse version of Arthur Daly from Minder - always had a wee deal going on; garage was always crammed with stuff from sweeties, toy cars and dolls to towels and duvets. Fairyland for big eyes! I can see him now wheeling and dealing in heaven so that they all get what they want for Christmas!

Fir Tree Farm are having a craft fair this morning and I am braving the cold to take Morag. I made two sympathy cards; one for each of us, to pop into her ex-husbands (Frank's son) who lives near there. Morag was very close to her mother and father in law but did not see so much of Frank after Jean died; nevertheless she was gutted by the news.

Sorry for the sad blog.
Cheers, Hazel x

TGI Friday

Thank goodness I agreed to host the new digi challenge. It forced me to keep trying the site and after a couple of days I managed to upload successfully. Everything was crossed for success - I looked like a pretzel. And it proved not to be just a fluke and I have uploaded again to join in with Clares Challenge.

My husband keeps asking me what I want for Christmas so I will try to solicit advice from Do crafters as to which cutting machine I should go for. The Cuttlebug would probably be the most suitable but I was tempted into the electronic world of Cricut and Slice so that my lovely Texture Boutique would not be consigned to my wardrobe shelf by the dual purpose Cuttlebug. I love cutting-out although I am not great at it but some of the shapes are beyond even my enthusiasm. So, if the owners of either of the electronic die- cutters would be willing to offer their advice I would be grateful.

Thanks

Not sulking, just frustrated!

The reason I have been absent from DC is just because computer problems haven't been completely solved. I got my profile restored and did not lose my files and we had our internet connection restored but for some reason I can't upload cards to DC without crashing and even tried to blog a couple of times and crashed too. It doesn't do my confidence a lot of good and I don't want to seem like a moaning minnie by posting on the general forums. As soon as I can get on again, I'll start joining the challenges - my mojo was affected by the computer sitch but it, too, is restoring itself.
I'm keeping this short and uncomplicated and have offered a plea to the god of small things so hopefully this will post successfully.

Prodedures

My stay in hospital was short and fairly sweet as the hysteroscopy revealed nothing except a teeny fibroid. 'Clean as a whistle' the surgeon said so appros of the blog before the last one, I was spruce inside and outside. Goodness only knows what's causing the problem but now I have pessaries which, as my sister Morag kindly pointed out, " go up yer flute". She's a charmer that one!

I never shopped online in the hospital because they always interupt at the wrong moment to make you do strange things like pee in a wee cardboard bowl. I felt tickety-boo on leaving but the following day I felt like poop. I ached all over and my throat was raw and I had bruises where they'd taken my BP and on both hands where they stick the canula. (no luck on my left so they had to find a vein in the right - all of mine seemed to have emigrated) Still, it provided me with a guilt free excuse for Andy to pamper me - lasted all of an hour but hey, grab it while you can.

I am now a blogger in cyberspace too which is funny. I owe all of it to Kimmi whose support and encouragement was invaluable and gratefully recieved. I also learned how to follow other peoples blogs so I shall be having a look at a lot more; probably today as Typhoid Mary aka Andy has given me his stinking cold and I am not shifting from this spot unless forced or until I stop being a mouthbreather!

Off to flumpyland I go; have a great day, love Hazel x

I'm writing this in hospital!

I'm such a nosy article I discovered that they give you free internet access in hospital and of course I had to login to docrafts. They can do what they want now as long as I can play on here! Technically I could shop with my paypal - if you shop for crafty stuff online does it count?I'm so excited it's sad!
 Goodbye for the present

Oh dear, hope everything is going ok. I hated being in hospital having my operations. First time they starved me for three days and after the op brought me toast and tea - was like heaven! Hope you get out soon! p.s. FOUND YOU! haha! Kim x

Nerves

Posted on: 22/10/2010 08:22:06 Quarantine this entry
 Hello folks and Happy Friday

Thanks to CraftyAlice and Tikvah for their lovely comments; I am starving just reading the comments and I can't eat cos I'm having a general anaesthetic today as a day patient. I'm nervous but it maybe because my mouth is so dry from not having a cuppa! My tum is marching towards strike action and is loudly making its feelings plain! I haven't got a blog site Alice - I'm not sure how to start but I love your blog with CraftyWhippet and your videos. They have me laughing and have prompted me to have a look at your American lady (Mary) and now I'm hooked on her accent and her videos. Aint the internet grand?

Well just writing this has made the title of this blog redundant and I feel a lot better although still hungry and thirsty - I don't do denial well when other people insist! I don't even have the pleasure of going on my usual  Friday lunch with Mum 'cos she has bolted to Lanzarote with my sister Susan; sun, sangria and.......sleep!
I wouldn't go solo as I'd feel like a Nora no-mates (if I wasn't going into Whiston) and so I'm going to work on Andy to take me for a sympathy Sunday lunch, if I can milk this occasion satisfactorily. See, no nerves now just thinking of the probable benefits.

I'm going to take my grubby little self off to the shower now and spruce myself up on the outside,at least.

Until next time, have a grand weekend, love Hazel x

PS Its a bit of camera work, the procedure, so nowt to get bothered about,in case you're concerned. Not the kind of camera you have to smile for neither,Lol.

When did 'Snoballs' get so small?

Posted on: 16/10/2010 14:26:08 Quarantine this entry
I mean, of course, Lees Snoballs, the delish coconut and chocolate covered mallow treat, made in Scotland. Lees macaroon bars are my favourite along with ginger Edinburgh rock and usually I get them only in Scotland but Alan from Fir Tree Farm has ordered some goods from Lees, hence my purchase of the Snoballs (and a hint to get macaroon bars). But they are tiny and they never used to be, unless they now come in two sizes. Mind, this was a packet of six and I have had bigger single ones. I have never looked for them down here but at one time Tesco's did a plain loaf (which probably only me and my family bought because they stopped doing them) - maybe they stock Lees and I've not noticed.

I bought some stamps from LOTV and have been trying them today but am now involved in trying to copy a design of card that I saw on You tube which it would probably be quicker to buy but not so much fun or head-scratchingly frustrating. I must be addicted to the eureka moment when things just fall into place - I seldom have it but crave it all the more!

Me and him have decided to treat ourselves to a Chinese takeaway tonight so it's extra crafting time instead of cooking time. Hurrah!

have a great weekend, cheers, Hazel.

From CraftyAlice in Glasgow, Scotland: I had such a craving for Lees stuff after your blog entry! LOL Do you have a blogspot anywhere else? I have one at getcreative-thinkz.blogspot.com - we have been busy filming today with some simple Christmas cards. When I've recovered some energy I'll get editing and uploading to YouTube!

Idle Hands

Can't make cards so I'm fiddling with my profile and have loaded one of my Momiji dolls pictures to replace my own mugg. I was going to upload my avatar picture of 'Hazel - girl spy ' but saw 'Happy, Happy, Happy' and liked her better. May keep on changing, may not!

One-eyed Pete, the pirate.

I have decided not to make any cards today as my depth perception has definately been affected by the procedure this morning. I had a 'chocolate cyst' removed from my left eyelid - first time I've let anyone take chocolate away from me! Now I've got a patch on my eye and you should have seen Andy's face when they wheeled me back to my room from the theatre - he was trying very hard to swallow a fit of the giggles, and not making a good job of it. Well as long as you can make someone laugh then your day is not completely wasted.

It's starting to itch too which is frustrating and I am having to type v slowly because I have been hitting the keys askew and have had to go back to correct the gibberish. ( the mistakes, not the usual gibberish!)

Have a couple of ideas for Clares Challenge so might sketch them out for now.

Best wishes for a great weekend, love Hazel x

About me

Updating 'about me'. Born in Edinburgh in 1956, moved to St Helens in'67 and still live here. Married to Andy for 32 years and have 2 grown up daughters living in London and Nottingham. Frankly, I adore them. Both my daughters became engaged in 2010 and now the youngest is getting married in New York in May 2011 and the oldest is marrying here in August 2012. Mucho excitement I can tell you!
I would like to thank everyone for taking a look at my work and for any comments - I appreciate them all.
I have now got a blog called hazeyjliveshere at http://kissoffgirl.blogspot.com (Don't ask, you know I'm bad with technology)

Interests

Dolls House miniatures, glass painting, embroidery, cardmaking, reading and puzzles (on my DS) I collect loads of different things; playing cards, anything with thistles or owls or bees on it, Kokeshi dolls and Shorter pottery to name a few. I have been tinkering with my avatar again and liked this pic of a Victorian girl - she looks nothing like me!
