Hi there I am sorting out my craft space due to getting a new desk and discovered among other things loads of embossing powders I've hardly used. Apart from the obvious of embossing stamped images do you ladies have any alternative uses for them?
I've never done altered art before but really love trying new things and have plenty of stuff I've hoarded to be able to alter (as youdo lol) many thanks pips

Hi there - I've used embossing powders on all kinds of surfaces (so long as they're not flamable they'll work) and have even painted fabric with PVA (not too thickly) and used embossing powder with that. Metallics work really well this way. In fact, PVA instead of ink is a good medium to use if you want to apply embossing powder to any project without having to use a conventional ink and stamp. Hope that helps a little. Deb x

Snoopy I haven't tried it but I hear there is a way of using it with wonder web. Also you can heat the general area really hot and sprinkle a bit of embossing power and heat up again - you might want to work in a box for that as some may blow off, I like using this with metallic powders and getting a sprinkled effect. You can sprinkle it onto wet acrylic paint. play and have fun. beware the paint can and will bubble under heat. You can shield other areas with an old bit of card. If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours Carpe diem!

You can also melt your powders in a melt pot (or a tin foil muffin case held with a wooden peg and heated from underneath with your heat gun, if careful) and pour them either directly onto a non-stick craft sheet and stamp into them with a pre-inked stamp or pour them into a silicone mould, (sugar crafting ones are good) and make your own embellishments or jewelery pieces. Also really good for dipping paper flowers into when melted. Rachel Walker rachwalk.blogspot.com

Hi! I have recently tried a few new things with embossing powders. used a piece of wallpaper with a raised design and inked it up like a stamp and embossed using that. Then I filled in the design with a clear pen and added a different coulour of powder. You can have a look at how it looks in my gallery under the altered medical dictionary. It's the right hand page of the pregnancy pages. You can also use normal pens too I think. I used embossed stamp designs on stitched soluble paper for one of my masks and the water dissolves the areas between the stamps for a lovely lacy effects! I also bought some clear powder and then you can use any colour stamp pad to create your embossed image. The docrafts magazine has 2 lovely free stamps with it this month and I got it from the range for £2! xx

I have punched shapes from fizzy drinks cans and then used my embossing powders on them. I just rubbed them over with my ink pad before embossing. They make lovely embellishments for cards and scrap books Rudeness is a weak person's attempt to appear strong

I use one of those trays you get ready meals in, for embossing small bits, they are heat resistant and your little piece won't blow across the room!x rosie Life is too short to spend with people who suck the happiness out of you!
