I use good quality cards, the ones that have been sent to me in a previous year, to stamp out snowflakes for my cards. also the ends of toothpaste cartons that are coloured silver can be used for punched shapes, depending on the rest of the carton that too may be useful. What do you do?

You know how when you buy a top they have ribbons on the inside at the shoulders. I cut these of to make bows.

I have: - covered empty cereal boxes with nice wallpaper samples to make gift bags. - used those Dulux paint colour strips for little punch outs (especially good for shaker cards. - used the coloured insides of old envelopes to make the strips for Iris folding and as backgrounds for cards. - used washed and smoothed out metallic lids of large yogourt pots to stamp on and also to emboss with a stylus. - used pictures from magazines, colour supplements and catalogues (especially seed ones) in card making. - used old (ironed) wrapping paper for backgrounds and also strips for Iris folding and those little folded shirts and bodices. - used old gift tags and bits cut out of old cards to make toppers. - made tiny gift boxes from old Christmas cards. Im always looking at stuff before I throw it away to see if it can be recycled!! LOL

I use the paper that flowers are wrapped in[ not the plastic sort] for lining envelopes, they often have a very simple design which is very tasteful.and like Lynn use foil tops from coffee jars, etc. I also find the silver card seal under milk bottle lids is ideal for a snowflake and you have a stencil of it too as the seal is quite thick card. I either draw an outline or sponge colour through it,

I keep cardboard packaging (cereal boxes, pizza boxes etc) to use to cut out shapes and templates as draw rounds. Also dont discard empty toothpaste/tomato puree etc. tubes. Cut off both ends, then cut down one side, wash well. Can then be used as foil for dry embossing. Also colour them with alcohol inks and cut into shapes. Diane

When my boyfriend buys me flowers they always have material similar to angel hair around them inside the plastic wrapping I take this out and use it as backing on my cards, also the big bow that is holding it all together gets cut up and used. I check all birthday and christmas cards to see what I can cut out especially if they are embossed. I have also used the front off a air freshener as a stencil for my chalking. Chocolate wrappers (have you seen the price of them in the craft shops) Ribbon off boxes of chocolates. These are my favourite ones but use loads more. Happy crafting Helen

well where do we all start then !! actually my husband goes mad when he catches me staring at an envelope or a piece of paper before deciding if I can do anything with it ... we get lots of coloured envelopes - junk mail and often I cut out shapes with my punches - daisies are always lovely to keep ... I have also got all my family to keep all their birthday anniversary and christmas cards for me over the past year and I can always find things to cut up or I copy the verses (be careful if you are selling on tho !) and also I cut up the cards to use the plain sides for layering and stamping on ... I am sure I could go on forever but will give somebody else a chance happy crafting all love sandy xx

I save tissue paper which I spray paint ,if the paper is creased it gives a great effect for backgrounds .If I want it smooth I iron it before spraying.

I use most of the different the methods of recycling that all the girls have mentioned but one that hasnt been mentioned is anything textured ie bubblewrap or wallpaper etc. can be used to create interesting background papers by inking or using Versamark with chalk etc. Or use cling film with a felt tip scribbled over and sprayed with water then another layer of clingfilm layered on the top, peel apart then overlay it onto glossy card and you get really nice backgrounds. or just scrunch up the cling film ink up and dab onto your card/paper. I use the free CDs you get with papers/ magazines (for internet connection type)Turn them over to reveal the shiny side and use them as a focal point for a birthday card. My kids love doing these for friends, add a few stars n musical notes with a happy birthday and they look lovely! Also keep the cellophane flowers come in. use it to remake small bouquets on cards or for layering.

coffee Jar lids with card inserts Being perfectly round and very clean are perfect for stamping on and using as toppers, badges etc. The cardboard ones are better than the polystyrene ones of course.

Milk bottle tops(the plastic screw ones)on the cartons. Attach tiny funky foam bits (small sizzix shapes or letters) and use for stamping. The edge is ridged so easy to hold and you can put pressure directly on the stamp. With the letters you can draw the image on the other side. Julia xx

I work in an office and we recycle what we can. recently we had a clear out of marketing brochures sent to us - loads of card which is only printed on one side - great for matting & layering (some great colours). Also, lots of 4-ring binders which can;t be used by us - I use a scalpel to cut the covering off these and use it as a backing to my better quality cards - gives a lovely leather look finish (and again lots of great colours!)
