Just want everyone to know about my wonderful supplier - Crabapple Crafts in Frodsham Cheshire.  I had placed an order for items I had seen in my Creativity magazine and asked that when the new magazine came into stock to ring me and I would purchase my magazine and items at that time. They duly rang me and the the lovely lady in the shop - Nova - said that because of the weight of the items the postage would be quite high. We chatted about where I lived and she had family near where I live so she suggested that at a pre-arranged time she would meet me and pass the items on to me on her next visit, which she duly did.  I really think she was incredibly kind - she did not have to do that and so once again I sing the praises of Crabapple Crafts and its staff.

Just wondered if anyone could help me.  I have Acrobat Reader 9 which is supposed to read pdf files on my laptop but when I download papers to print off it allows me to save them but when I try to print it offers me the option to 'open' or 'save' the files but it never opens them although it will let me save them, Really disappointed as there are some lovely ones I would like to print off.

REALLY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

I am really disappointed.   It was my birthday on Tuesday and my husband was buying me a 'Big Shot'  to replace my extremely elderly but well loved Sizzix machine.  He searched around (with my help) and found a site - mycraftstore.com - who had a really good offer for the Big Shot.  He ordered it and the money was taken from his account right away - that was 10 days ago.  Since then I have e-mailed and telephoned and was told they had run out of stock and my item would be received Tues or Wed of this week.  When it did not arrive I telephoned again and they said they had problems with deliveries so I have asked for a refund.  Meanwhile,  I still do not have my Big Shot!  I have got to wait until next Thursday to see if the money is refunded.  So my advice to all crafters would be to steer away from what seems a really good offer and stick with the reputable companies that may be more expensive but reliable.

To add insult to injury my best friend bought me some XCut Nesting Dies for my birthday but my present Sizzix will not cope with them so I am itching to 'have a go' and create some new cards with my new 'toy'.

On the plus side my grandson and granddaughter gave me a lovely set of 12 sissors with different cutting patterns on them so I am having lots of fun experimenting with them so watch this space.

Just got my latest copy of Creativity today - can't put it down it's just full of wonderful ideas.

PROBLEM !!!!

Posted on: 23/09/2011 23:31:27 Quarantine this entry
It's a nice problem to have but I now do as much cake decoration as I do cards and somethimes I just don't know which to do.   With Christmas coming up I need to stock pile my Xmas cards but I also like to prepare some of the Christmas cake decorations.   Since I have been doing cakes everyone is asking me to do one - which I don't mind - but my brain is hurting with ideas!!!!

CAKE DECORATION QUERY

Posted on: 05/06/2011 15:59:26 Quarantine this entry
I am new to cake decoration but wondered to save time, how long can you keep hand made sugar flowers.  Sometimes I have time to make some flowers prior to needing to make and ice the actual cake.  Do they go 'off'?

Would appreciate some help.  J  x

Hi, You can keep sugarflowers a long time depending how you store them, sugar tends not to go off and is often used as a preservative.Always keep in a box that isn't airtight -(airtight boxes drag all the moisture out and your flowers will become damp and stick to themselves)Keep them dry and away from light - they may fade if exposed to too much light - especially a problem with blues and lilac colours. If they get dusty give them a blast with a hair dryer to get the dust off (wouldnt suggest your craft heat gun as that would burn the sugar)Hope this helps, margaretcarter1

BLONDE / SENIOR MOMENT?

Posted on: 25/02/2011 19:12:33 Quarantine this entry
As I have said before, Got a lot of 'men's cards' to do shortly so was looking forward to getting my next issue - due out 1st March - of Creativity Magazine  to get some ideas based on Forever Friends Retro Collection and Born to Shop - Bloke collection.

Disappointed to find firstly that the advertisement on the next to last page of the last Creativity Magazine, Issue 25, for the Bloke collection should not  have been there!

Secondly, having rung and e-mailed quite a few of the suppliers in my area to see if they are getting in the Forever Friends items, I  found most of them either had no idea what I was talking about and a few made it clear they did not care!   Finally I found a supplier Crab Apple Crafts in Frodsham, who, when I telephoned, was just unpacking his order.  He was really keen to see what had arrived and returned my call when he had completed unpacking, described what he had received, asked me what I needed, took my order and I will collect items when I am next in his area in a few days time.  Well done Crab Apple Crafts.

Thirdly, Am I having a senior/blonde moment?  I am wondering  how, when I open my next issue of Creativity, people managed to get the Forever Friends items in order to have their designs included in the new issue 26 as they are only in stock from the 1st March?

Need more time!

Just made what I consider is one of my best cards ........however for the first time ever, forgot to take a photo!  Very senior moment...

Hope I can remember how I did it.  Really enjoying doing easel cards.

Can't wait for lst March when the next Creativity magazine is out I want to get the 'born to shop - bloke' stamps and the ideas from the magazine. Got quite a lot of male birthdays coming up and could use some humerous lads cards instead of the usual shirt and tie, golf and fishing ones.

About me

Finished work about 5 years ago. Now aged 66. Love my family, hobbies and life in general. Work on the idea that if you don't use it you will loose it!!!! Favourite cards are made using watercoloured images and also decoupage. Like delicate and fiddly. Love watercolour pencils. Following retirement from 'real job' at 60 began teaching cardmaking at a local craft centre until it closed down. Love new ideas and spend lot of time on internet 'learning' about all sorts of things. Reasonably good on computer and love viewing other card makers projects and really appreciate any comments about my cards. Just started cake decoration - love anything fiddly. I am old on the outside but inside I'm still only about 35!!!!
Beginning to think I need a tiny one bedroom flat with an airport size room as my workroom !

Interests

card making, watercolours, crochet, keep fit, reading, cooking, jewellery making and most importantly my son his wife and my grandchildren.
ps Just started cake decoration - making sugar flowers etc for cakes.
