Interview With Cheryl Sandberg

pastingSix years ago I had the dignity of interviewing Cheryl Sandberg of An Occasional Chocolate. Cheryl, like many women, loves chocolate. However instead of buying it at the retailer like most of us, Cheryl made her chocolate treats from scratch. The more folks raved about her treats, the more her want to share her "secrets" grew. Over time, Cheryl took her passion for chocolate to new heights and started a chocolate lover's dream-- a chocolate sweet making business.

How did you get into Chocolate Candy Making?

After I made a basket of four flavored truffles and gave them to neighbors, friends and family they all mentioned the same thing, "You MADE that?!" They were so impressed with my expertise and my product, not to mention the taste, that they began asking me, "How did you do this?" After I informed them how EASY truffle making was, they didn't consider me!

I started teaching friends and family how you can make the sweet, together with molds, dipped fruits and other enjoyable creations. Then I went to a class taught domestically and that's after I knew, "I can do this! I can educate folks to do this!"

I had expertise in internet design and graphic design from years past, so half of the battle was over. Designing a web site and making it nice was easy! As soon as I realized I was going to begin a business, the sleepless nights and the THINKING came. Ideas flowed into my head like a faucet! (Or shall I say, like a chocolate fountain!) The title, An Occasional Chocolate, came to me at 3AM and that's after I knew I was in trouble.

I gathered three other professionals with similar passion as me, and we brainstormed for months. We researched merchandise, came up with ideas primarily based on things we read or noticed on the Internet, and sought out our competition.

What I found was that there wasn't a lot in the way in which of information or merchandise for inexperienced persons and intermediates. It appeared you either needed to read an over-your-head web site or dig deep to seek out different ways of doing things. I knew I may help folks make these lovely treats, and help them get as excited as I was! I may even provide all of the really exhausting-to-discover elements and educate them how you can use them. So my business began..
