I have two gorgeous grandson who are my world. Louis is 9 and Fray is 4. Louis was diagnosed at 6 years old with having Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This came as a complete shock to our whole family as we'd never heard about this form of muscle disease nor is there any previous family history of this condition. The past couple of years have been very painful for all of us, as we've had to learn a lot about Louis' condition and how he will be affected in the future.There are a number of different types of muscular dystrophy, Duchenne being the most severe form. All of which are caused by faults in the genes which cause a cruel, progressive muscle weakness because of muscle cells breaking down which in time are gradually lost. This is a very rare and serious condition, with around 100 babies being born every year in the UK suffering from this. By the age of 8 to 11 years all boys are unable to walk and for all boys it is 100% fatal.
