Step by Step

1

For this project you will need a 12 x 12 inch sheet of card, I used a sheet of Co-ordinations card. At least 2 different contrasting patterned papers and embelishments/peel offs to decorate as desired.

2

Cut your 12"x 12" piece of card into 12" x 8". Place the card in front of you with the 12" being the horizontal length. Mark along the top and bottom, starting from the left at 2", 4", 8" and 10" intervals. For now you will need to join the marks, top to bottom, with a faint pencil line as shown in diagram 1.

3

Next you will need to make 2 cuts in the card. These are shown as the thick solid lines in diagram 2. Then score along the dotted lines. These will be your mountain folds looking at the front of the card.

4

Then turn your card over (like a spiral bound notepad) onto the reverse and follow the process, scoring and making mountain folds where shown in diagram 3. When you have done this and folded all you score lines, it should become the finished article. Holding the card at each end and pushing from the lefthand side you should be able to fold the card shut, into DL size.

5

You now need to cut your matching papers to fit each section of the card. The card works in inches, the 4 smallest sections being 2" x 2". I cut my pieces of paper for these sections 1 ¾" x 1¾", thus leaving a border when applied to the card. Repeat this measurement for each section. Remember however, if you wish to double mat and layer with Mirri card as I have done on some sections, you will need to allow an extra ¼ inch when cutting your patterned papers. I used a selection of papers from the Papermania 12 x 12 Joyeux Noel range. These are great as they have a selection of patterns that are all colour co-ordinated.

6

Finally, I embellished my card using the Forever Friends Elements Topper - Winter Berries. The Scalloped circle and tag were made using die cut shapes and I finished the card off with some peel offs and organza ribbon.

I never would have believed that when I was 9, cutting shapes out of coloured paper to make Christmas cards, I would be a designer for a Company such as ‘do crafts’. It just proves how popular the craft industry continues to be. It’s the new gadgets; the ever-changing designs & most importantly the creative ideas that have helped keep the industry alive. It’s a real a buzz to be able to show somebody something they’ve never seen before & give them inspiration.
