2
TIP Photocopy templates before using - place all cut out pieces onto the main design before gluing.
3
THE HAT BASE - Cut out the main hat template and band from the red 12" x 18" foam (the band can be made as one continuous or 2 separate pieces).
4
Use a stapler to secure each end of the main template to the band (see template for guidance). You may need to overlap them slightly. There should be an open section left once you have finished. Use a hole punch, pencil or craft knife to create a slit in either side through which to thread the ribbon.
5
Cut out the following...
a. face from flesh coloured foam
b. hair from orange foam
c. large frill from blue foam
d. small frill and mouth from white foam
e. arms from multi-coloured foam
f. hands from flesh foam
Place the foam shapes into position.
Once you are happy with your design, glue into place.
6
THE CLOWN - Cut out the main clown template from white 12" x 18" foam.
7
TIP Make sure that all the edges have been glued to prevent them from springing up once the template is bent around the hat.
8
TIP Only glue the curved, inside edge of the smaller hair sections (where they meet the face) so that the outside edges stand out once the template is bent.
9
Add the large red pom as a nose and the smaller poms poms as decoration to the frill and cuffs. Glue on the wobbly eyes.
10
Use a black permanent marker pen to add the mouth, eye brows and hair detail. Leave to dry.
11
SECURING THE CLOWN FACE TO THE HAT BASE - Apply a generous amount of glue along the entire bottom edge of the clown and place around the hat - secure into place until dry using paper clips.
12
Once dry, thread through the ribbon and secure to size!
